Is it possible to have my notebook Tv tuner to record from my VCR.?

I want to see if I can play my old video tapes and record them on to my hard drive with a TV tuner.

  1. Yes. there are two ways:

    1) If you have a line in on the tuner cards. Line level audio and video (RCA yellow, red and white jacks) are a standard and if you have line level INPUTS on your card, then all you need to get is a patch cable and connect the two devices together since all VCRs have line level outputs. You will need some video editing software line Nero.

    2) If you do not have line level, you still could do it using the RF out of the VCR, you will need a coax cable to connect it to the tuner. Tune the tuner to channel 3 and once you get the video on your screen, you should be able to use Nero or similar software to record it in a similar fashion.

    One caution is that you are recording from an analog device (VCR) so the video quality will not be great but it is the best you could do considering the low fidelity of your source (tapes).
