I had a surround sound box, but it's broken but I still want surround sound. Is it possible to have surround sound using the main unit of a stereo? In the back of my stereo I see AV jack outputs, so I think it may be possible. I can also use the stereo to plug all my speakers into. My TV does have AV jack inputs, but it has 9 of them in the back and 3 on the side.. I also have a DVD player to put the jacks into if that is easier.

PLEASE HELP!!!

  1. "stereo" implies only 2 channels so it's not technically surround sound no matter how many speakers you hook up. Most consumer level surround sound receivers run 7 UNIQUE channels plus a dedicated subwoofer channel.

  2. it won't be SURROUND sound, but it would be stereo.

The surround sound receiver has a decoder that detects what channel to send the audio to, where the stereo receiver can decode two channels, the surround sound receiver can decode 7 channels.
