Is it possible to have the wrong diagnosis when DNA is takeni.e to confirm who the father of the child is.?

We had a DNA sample taken butv the kit was sent to us,and we took the swab ourselves.

  1. Possibly. If the test carried out was as accurate as your spelling then maybe there is a mistake. lol


  2. It is possible - but the likelihood of it being wrong depends on the exact situation. If you have DNA from both parents and offspring then there is a lower chance of error. If there are missing data then the chances are higher.

    For all tests there are two potential problems - one of the DNA samples is contaminated with someone else's DNA, that might happen in the home sampling; or if one of the samples didn't yield good quality/quantity of DNA and some of the genotypes are wrong. The company doing the test should ideally spot the second problem and ask for a new sample.

    It is not completely straightforward, but a lot more details would be necessary before deciding whether the first test needs validating. Sorry it's a bit vague.
