  1. Yes!!!

    Clear air turbulence (CAT) can be worse than when it's cloudy. It can also happen without warning. This is a great explication;

    Actually, people think winter flying is rougher. I was a Flight Attendant on long haul flights for 13 years and summer could mean more bumpy rides. Part of the reason is that traffic is so thick in the air that the pilots can't get permission to change altitude as well as in winter. In the air, it's sort of like if you were driving on a highway and you had to call a control center before you could change lanes.

    Tubulence can be bad but rarely is it really scary and it wont rip the aircraft out of the sky. The biggest threat is of actual injury so always keep an eye out for those handrails around the cabin (including inside the lavs). When you are seated, keep your seatbelt buckled. If you are somewhere else when it hits, evaluate the situation and decide if it's safe to get back to your seat. By all means, grab an empty seat if there is one and if it's really bad, sit on the ground and hold on. Look out for flying objects, especially those carts the F/A's use. They're really heavy and can have hot drinks on top.

    Very importantly, the pilots will get messages from other aircraft warning them of upcoming tubulence. The seatbelt sign may go on even if it's smooth and that is an indication that there might be rough air ahead. Try to finish up whatever you're doing if you're up and get back to your seat. Strap yourself in and make sure whomever you're flying with does the same.

    If you have the tendency to get motion sickness, don't move around. Stare ahead and breathe.

    Rarely does it last long so cooperate with the crew and litterly hang in there!

  2. Possibly with high winds... But not likely.

    If you are worried, talk with your airport about it. If the conditions are too bad anywhere they are flying into or to, they will cancel the flight. Yes things happen, but its highly unlikely.
