Is it possible to have your ipod synchronised to more than one computer?

I have 3 computers in my house. When I first got my ipod I tried it on all of them and it went crazy. So when I phoned up my friend he told me only to use one computer to sync it. But now I'm getting a new laptop and I'm going to have all iTunes and all set up on it but there is loads of songs on the other computer I'm going to need- you know 'cos when I sync my ipod then I'll need all my songs on iTunes.

I know it's confusing so e-mail me if you need more details to answer.

Thanks

  1. There are some tools for that. I  use the aniosoft iTunes backup tool, which can help to backup the itunes library, restore library to any computer and share itunes music with others, also it's easy to use and works great. You can have a look of below review site. It has detail introduction and  provides free trial download.hope it useful.

  2. NO!

The ipod is a SLAVE device to itunes and although itunes can have many ipods connected to it the ipod can only be slave to one itunes at a time!

you always use the contents of your itunes folder for backing up never rely on whats on the ipod as on next sync it could lose everything if everything was lost from itunes.

copy the ENTIRE contents of your itunes folder onto the new laptop and you'll have everything as it was but remember to log into the itunes store and authorise that machine as well. itunes store can have up to 5 machines authorised to it before it resets the authorisations (via the account page) and you have to reauthorise the machines you want.

Do not use the ipod to move music over it wont work. as it can only slave to one machine at a time.

there however is a way but its risky - one clip up and you lose all that's on the ipod!

hen you PAIR an iPod with a computer it erases all songs on it!!! and deletes pairing with original computer.

    Sharing music is also illegal!

You cannot transfer music from an ipod to itunes as Itunes is the MASTER location of the music files. if you NEED to transfer music form your ipod to the computer as you have lost the original you need a 3rd party application (I use Yamipod for mac) but a whole range can be found on www.versiontracker.com and enter ipod transfer in the search box under your operating system.

once you have the utility installed run it and close itunes! connect the ipod (if itunes starts up and asks if you want to pair say NO and close itunes again). then with the utility transfer the songs form the ipod to your hard disk.

Then disconnect the ipod, START itunes... drop the files you have just transferred onto the itunes Library and once the files have been copied into the library you can delete the originals (NEVER MOVE or touch the itunes folder on your computer otherwise you will lose the music let itunes manage it for you).

Now reconnect the ipod and when it asks pair say YES and it will transfer the music to your computer.

if doing this with 2 computers you have to do this on both!!
