Is it possible to hit the cue ball & make it trace a curved or circular path?

Yes for curve with a masse shot but a complete circle has not been done.

It is called a masse shot. You hold the the cue stick above the cue ball and come down real hard on the left or right depending on which way you want the rock to curve.

You can do it by putting a little english on the cue ball.  English is when the ball is hit off-center.  This makes the cue ball spin and affects the path that it takes.

Yep, but if you aren't really good you can easily rip the felt on the table. Masse shots are banned in many establishments, for that reason.

Not at all. Your best shot at something like that would be to jump the obstruction by hitting the cue ball with great force at the very bottom. Glad to help!

The ball can only go part of a circular path but not completely, it is just impossible. The only way to achieve if the cue is being stuck at a very great force and its impossible to do that on a pool table.

half circle can be done by holding the cue upright to clip the side of the cue ball to the side you want it to bend. not appreciated in pubs as it can tear the bay. can ruin your tip too.

Yes, there is a way to make the cue ball curve.  A curve ball is also referred to as a "half-masse" shot.  It is executed by elevating the butt of the cue 45 degrees and shooting downward, striking the cue ball left or right of center.  How hard the shot is executed and the amount of sidespin (English) will determine when the curve will take effect and to what extent.  Make sure that your stroke is fundamentally sound and that you follow through completely.  You will have to make sure that your bridge hand is sturdy and secure.  You will notice that this shot will be more difficult to execute with a heavier cue ball.  It really is a handy shot to know, as it is easier than a jump shot for most to perform.  That's coming from the vast majority of my students.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
