I'm currently a junior in a public high school. This year has become increasingly difficult due to ongoing depression that is finally affecting my ability to function and work productively at school. Because of it, my grades are sliding. Prior to this year, I have had a 4.0 (from all schooling up through my sophomore year). This past semester's GPA will look something along a 2.8-3.0 -- I've yet to receive my marks. Though these grades aren't significantly terrible from an average perspective, they are quite a bit lower than what I am used to, as well as of that which I am capable. I am hoping that a semester away might give me time to find some working treatment for my depression and take away the anxiety of being surrounded by other students my age to whom I can seldom relate. Would it be possible to finish my second semester of my junior year through homeschooling (in Missouri) and finish of my senior year at my public high school?

  1. Sure, it's possible!  Have you spoken to your parents about it?  While most high school curricula are self-directed, your parents still need to be involved.

I would recommend taking classes through the University of Missouri's Center for Distance and Independent Studies:

If you went through CDIS, you'd receive a transcript and could use the courses as high school credit.
