  1. no

  2. It would defeat your purpose, because the top part of the window would be cranked out also and letting hot air in. Take the window out and board up the top to make it fit.

  3. Yes you can put an air conditioner in! It must be for a "Casement" style window. I bought my Mother-in-Law one at Sears. Before I got it she always said she would never use an air conditioner. So I installed it when she was out of town. For about a week she wouldn't touch it, then I turned it on when she went to the grocery store. The house cooled off before she came back. After that, she used it regularly!

Sears still sells these units. Sears item #04275123000

  4. We used a hacksaw and cut the bottom section of the window out of the 4-part crank out window and then installed the A/C unit according to the directions that came with it.  We used this system in 2 of our rental units. for several years. Eventually we replaced the windows  one unit at a time and put in regular single-hung windows and reinstalled the A/C units per the instructions.

  5. Most likely you would have to remove the entire window in order for the AC to fit properly.

  6. YES!

  7. I seriously doubt that you could install a regular window A/C in the crank out type window, but they do manufacture a special unit for these type windows.
