Also: would a new car with no rear defroster come pre-wired for one or would you have to install the defroster and the wiring?

  1. There used to be some kits they were a blower mounted in the trunk with a deffuser in the rear dash, and some kits were heated either electric or heated coolent .

You could make up a kit yourself with a little enginuity and creativity

They have a dash mount fan/heater often found at truckstops and plugs into cigarette lighter

and then there is the window grid , the problem with them is they bubble or turn yellow and yukky

A simple little fan can work well for defogging.

I doubt there is wireing pre installed

  2. I've seen them. There's an electric grid like the factory ones that sticks on the window and you wire it in. It seemed to work ok, don't know where he got it though.

  3. Without knowing which car this applies to, who really knows.

But, you should be able to find a rear window (the defroster grid is in the window), slap it in, and plug the wiring in.

Problem is...you probably need the switch, maybe the wiring for that switch, et al...
