Question:

Is it possible to install an infant car seat in the 2000 Ford Ranger?

There are second row folding bench seats, and i don't think there is a side air bag in that model (of course, i will make sure of it).

I do have another vehicle that is not a pick-up truck, and i know that infants and children shouldn''t ride in the front seat, because of the air bags. I was just wondering if anyone has any info about that or where i can find that information. It would be nice to be able to use both cars if needed.

Thank you

  1. Nope.....the side folding seat is very unstable and unsafe to use....

This is what the law reads for your situation..............

Extended cab pickups with side-facing jump seats are NOT appropriate for children, or adults for that matter, to ride. Safety belts do not provide good protection in these seats. Safety seats CANNOT be installed.

  2. Do you mean jump seats? Do they fold out from the side of the truck? If so - no. You can never install a car seat in a jump seat. The child car seat would have to be installed in the front seat with the air bag turned off. And a 2000 isn't going to have side air bags, just front air bags.

In general, it is much safer to always put children in another vehicle besides a pickup truck. They just aren't as safe as other vehicles b/c they have less crumple zones around them.

  3. Yes. In the front seat, with the airbags turned off. You may have to go to the dealership to get the airbags turned off now, but there used to be a switch in between the front seats, towarda the floor.
