Question:

Is it possible to join by high school's softball team if I've never played before?

I'm going to be a sophomore this fall and most (if not all) of my friends on the team have played before. I would really like to play and I had wanted to join last year but my life with my family and my sister graduating from college out in Indiana just got too hectic so I never tried out.

I know I would have to work really hard and of course I already own a few softballs, a bat, and a glove...I'm going to try to get my dad to buy something for practicing my swing. I'm not too great with my throwing so I'd have to work on that too but I'm willing to work to get on the team. If I make anything it will more than likely be JV but I'm not expecting to be on the varsity team my first year playing obviously.

Any tips for practicing (by myself for the most part) or for getting on the team?

  1. nope sorry. this question is asked every day.

  2. I say go for it but if u suck u won't get much playing time but u have got to be patient. I played baseball for my high school last year and my tip is just to practice a lot.

  3. Good Luck, Softball is a fun sport.

First of all you want to figure out what position you would want to play, if your playing short stop, catcher, or any OF position, throwing is essential. if your going to play a base then you will defenetly want to have someone practicing with you, you want to be able to catch a ball well and be able to get it back to where it came from fast.

Batting is a different story. Batting is a tough aspect of the game, you really need to concentrate. you need to think about the count, if your 0-2 the pitcher might try and make you chase outside, a 3-2 count, the pitcher is going to try and paint a corner or go at your knees. you have to consider all these things while batting.

Softball is near impossible to practice by yourself i think. you always need someone helping you. i suggest going to the batting cages if your going to practice by yourself though. get some batting in, practice the swing.

  4. throw with your friends on the team and have them hit you ground balls and pop-ups and throw it back to them.

and also go to the batting cage to hit.

you can also take hitting lessons, and pretty much lessons for everything like base-running, fielding, and throwing.

and get a net and throw into it, or like a pitch-back and throw it into it and it will come back at u and catch it then.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
