  1. Well, it doesn't do you much good to know just the number of buys if you can't compare it to the number of sells, now does it?

    I am sure there are some seedy operations that would prefer that method though.

    Check your Breadth and Advance Decline line.


  2. You need level 2 quotes and then you can see the unfilled orders.

  3. No.  This statistic is not tracked because it is meaningless.

    If there are limit orders to buy 1000 shares at 50, at 50.20 and at 50.50, non of which are filled, does this mean that someone is trying to buy 3000 shares or that someone wants 1000 shares and is tuning his order to catch a dip?  There is no way to tell, so orders can't be used as a measure of demand.

  4. For every buy there is a sell

    For every sell there is a buy

    You can look at volume and recognize in a given time period if a stock has gone up  or down. You can look at the breath and advance/decline... but there are no buys without sales and there are no sales without buys.
