Question:

Is it possible to layout all the scrabble letters with no space between pieces, creating all valid words?

I'm wondering if a few scenarios are possible in Scrabble:

Is it possible to arrange all 100 letters in scrabble in a perfect 10x10 square creating all valid words? If not, is it possible to arrange the letters in any fashion with no breaks between the pieces horizontally or vertically (rectangle), with all valid words? And finally is it possible if it is only non-breaking horizontally, although any words created vertically need to be valid.

Doubtful, but would any of these scenarios be playable if the players just kept swapping letters until they had the correct ones?

  1. dude lol ,thats so hard to understand so i dont think you should type all words together.

    example:heyyouaresogaythatihateyoubeac...

    SORRY

  2. You know, far more unusual things have been shown to be possible, so I would never say that it is impossible, but I think it is unlikely.  It would be interesting to try though.  Challenging problem.

  3. I don't think so. I doubt its possibility even if the brightest and most intelligent computers will do the playing. The scrabble letters are just so limited.

  4. A more interesting question, to which the answer is probably yes, is whether you can arrange the tiles so that each row has one word, each vertical has one word, all are connected, and

all tiles are used.  This could be done with a big diagonal object, laid out like the X s in

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    OXXXOOOOOOOOOOO

    OXXXXOOOOOOOOOO

    OXXXXOOOOOOOOOO

    OOOXXXOOOOOOOOO

    OOOOXXXXOOOOOOO

    OOOOXXXXOOOOOOO

    OOOOOXXXXOOOOOO

    OOOOOXXXXXOOOOO

    ...

and so on.  This way, you can do lots of words with between 3 and 8 letters, and don't need super-long words.

  5. That would be extremely difficult if you could use any letters you wanted, but it's impossible using just the set of letters from a Scrabble Board.

  6. It's very difficult, you should check your dictionaries and find some good words there.
