I know Russian, cos I was born in Russia, I study English because it's the most widespread language in the world and I just like it, and I want to

begin studying one more language but just can't decide which one of these two to choose: Spanish or Japanese. Which one would you choose? I know that Japanese is more difficult but I don't like easy tasks)

  1. wow, you dont like easy tasks?? so better choose japanese.

japanese writing system is really difficult.

spanish and japanese are really similar in pronunciation.

but japanese use 3 different writing systems in one sentence. you need to master 2 letter systems (47 letters each) and 1 character system (you need to master more than 2,000 characters).

of course, you need to memorize idioms (combination of characters) and phrases as well. there're tons of phrases in japan :)

do you want to try japanese now?

    i like your spirit.

    do your best :)

  2. Yes, it's possible to learn Japanese.

  3. LOL, if it were not possible then no one on earth would be able to speak or read it.  Ergo, it is possible.  Which you choose depends on what you want to do with it.  For business, an oriental language could be quite helpful.

  4. Learning to SPEAK Japanese is not that difficult.  English is MUCH more difficult, right along with Russian for those that don't speak those 2 languages.  Spanish is fairly easy to learn.

Pick a language that you'll use.

My family was from Finland and my grandmother taught me Finn when I stayed with her as a little boy. My mother refused to speak it around me because she said she was an American now and needed to speak the language of her adopted country (she no longer considered herself a Finn after she EARNED her U.S. citizenship). When I was in the Navy, I picked up enough of 7 languages (Japanese, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Cantonese, Swahili and Arabic...I already spoke Spanish) to get something to eat, not get lost, do some shopping and carry on limited conversations.  I worked on learning Hindu in 06 - 07 while working with the Indian Navy.

Unfortunately, since I've not used those languages in such a long time, I've forgotten most of what I've learned.

  5. Spanish is becoming more widespread in the states, but I'd say Japanese gives you a better edge for business.
