  1. Yeah, Sure it is. It'll be tough, and you won't be a power hitter just yet, but you'll get it over.

The Key thing is practice. Watch an experienced player serve repeatedly, and mimic their movements. (Practicing the toss is also extremely key. A good toss, a little infront of you, but still high will make your job 10x easier!) Remember, You should not feel like you exhurting all of your energy, but alot. You should feel the 'force' in your arm and abs...

The footwork is really important. I think this article sums it up nicely:

Search good overhand serves on youtube... but make sure they are not jump serving. Watch them... and google is your freind!!

Most imporantly though, ask your coach. Coaches love the go-getters.. the ones who work hard and always push themselves. Good luck!!! Hope you make the team!

  2. Of course you can learn!  You can learn in like a day, but it takes many practice and reps and a good attitude.  I will be a soph this year and I started on our 4a state champ varsity team and I am the #4 server in the state.

    Tips:

    1) Low toss in FRONT of you, do not toss high (tossing high will lead to the ball being out of your control, you can't aim, and most the time it won't go in) and do not toss behind you so that you have to reach (you will kill your shoulder.)

    2) Your toss should only be as high as your arm can extend and reach.

    3) Eliminate all extra movement.  Keep the opposite foot forward and as you toss take a giant step with the side your serving withs foot.  (Do not run after the ball or take 3 steps than serve.)

    4) Keep an open hand.  Do not use a fist or quench your fingers together.

    5) Positive attitude always helps.  Just say to yourself "I WILL get this over, I WILL."

    6) Strong arm all the way through the ball, do not swing across yourself, swing straight.

Good luck at your tryouts and I hope you get your serve down!

  3. yes...one of the keys is to make sure each toss is the same...that way u can adjust the way u hit w/o completely adjusting urself...

be sure to snap ur wrist and hit the c**p out of the ball (pretend it's the head of some guy who dumped u) lol

  4. yea it is but you will have to work.  Just like everybody else says, good toss is key to a good serve.  make sure your hand is stif and then toss it so it lands right in front of your serving foot if you are working on your toss.  Then when you have that down, work on coming straight through with your arm and hitting it with the bottom part of your hand.  and follow through.  See how that works..
