I want to know if it's possible and if there are any legal matters concerning this. And by listening to foreign radio I mean directly, not through the websites. By foreign country I am specifically asking about Russia.

Alaska-Russia, can there be signals and is it possible for me to hear their radio broadcasts?

  1. Their frequencies wouldn't pick up way over where you are; so through sites may be the only way.

  2. You can listen to foreign broadcasts and many of them are in English. The Voice of Russia has a live web cast each day beginning at 10 PM Pacific Daylight Time and going on until 6 AM the following morning, all in English. That's the first link below. Use the "language" scroll on the front page to select "English" then click. Go to the right side of the page and scroll down until you see the link for the broadcast and click it.

The second link below is a web site which lists all of the nations that broadcast on short wave. Many of them have web casts and pod casts and many have them in English. Just navigate away and enjoy.

  3. From my radio days SW (short wave) depending on the hour (it has to do how the atmosphere reflects radio signals) is generally difficult to get other from almost line of sight transmitters. Long Wave LW however is plentiful in round the Globe signals. From BBC that has emissions in many languages to many parts of the world, Voice of America that does the same and of course Russia and other Eastern European countries, what you need is a good receptor and explore the frequencies. I have to warn though, listening to the BBC or Voice of America could mean a surprise visit by the Stasi or KGB DURING THE DAYS of communist dictatorship in Eastern Europe. Enjoy the listening. There are people who take it as their duty that you can.
