Question:

Is it possible to live outside of government?

Today we are so preconditioned to see natural existence as under a government with thousands of rules and restrictions influencing how we act, but are there places in the world where it would be possible to exist outside any government jurisdiction? Antarctica is assigned by treaty to various nations, and almost every uninhabited island is claimed by a government for fishing rights. Isn't there anywhere where people can just be people, and if not, isn't this a serious violation of the most basic human right?

  1. Most areas are governed by a government, however you can find areas that are not (for example, I don't think Brazil's government is going to go track you down deep in the Amazon).

"Might is right", no matter where you live, the strongest single force will control the area.  In the Wild West, the US government has jurisdiction over the area, but lack of government services and law enforcement made the region somewhat dangerous.  I think you'll find that any place worth living without a government will be living under some local tyrant.

Government is not a violation of the most basic human right, good government provide citizens with basic human rights.  You can just be a person under the US government, you are not required to do much except follow the laws.

  2. death

  3. Another basic right is to be free and secure.  If everyone is uninhibited by government and its rules (e.g. society otherwise known as you and me) then the only rule is "he who is badder, meaner, tougher or has the most thugs gets to make the rules". Read Hobbes' "Leviathan" and you'll see the utility of government.

  4. Is it possible?   Sure it is.   For example, there are still primitive tribes living along the Amazon and in remote parts of New Guinea, where people are still being "just people."   There's also not a whole lot of government in Darfur or other places in Africa.

  5. REally good question

I'm not sure but the native americans "THAT YOU NEVER HEAR OR SEE IN MAINSTREM AMERICA" are trying to do just that.

the native americans dont want to pay some kind of tax to the government for the casinos that they earn

so that is a very good question..

  6. Go find an uninhabited island and make your own rules!

  7. just live off the grid the government cant control you if they cant find you

  8. Turn the lights off....it's a dim wit.

  9. These restrictions help us live in a safe environment. Without them, we would have no order in this world. You'd have to find your own un-established island somewhere. . . but then, you would have no police, hospitals, firefighters, military, or anything like that to protect and help you. We have way more freedom than most of the world--including the right to rant and rave about the government on yahoo without being thrown into jail. Of course there are limitations, but without those limitations, this world would be even crazier than it already is.

  10. No Never.

  11. yes just get a boat and sail 3 miles of shore and you are then in international waters. wot ever goes on there is between you and god.

  12. Dig really deep towards the center of the earth, then stake your claim.  I don't know how deep you'd have to dig to escape Government jurisdiction?  Just make sure you don't accidently come out in China, or end up in h**l.
