I'm 17, 5'0 and 98 lbs. Don't tell me not to lose weight - I'm determined to be 90 lbs. I have a very small body frame - Please try to understand.

If I eat 1200 - 1300 calories a day and go to the gym almost every day, using an elliptical to burn off 300 - 400 calories a time, will I lose weight? Is this healthy? Should I add muscle training too? But isn't it impossible to gain muscle and lose weight at the same time, because of the calorie restriction?

Also, how long would it take to lose the 8 lbs?

THANKS!

  1. yes

  2. Yes, it's possible if you are doing the correct workout. You might also want to look into a protien shake if you are wieght lifting. Good luck.

  3. Yes its possible, my friend did it. However she needed to lose fat, you don't

  4. I have struggled with weight issues all my life and still do . Personally , being as small as you are , I dont think you need to lose any weight.  But the simple truth is that in order to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you take in ,.. period.   Also I am an avid believer in weight training . You might gain some weight, especially at first, but generally your body will shrink and you can wear smaller clothes even if you might not have lost anything . Have you ever watched the show " The Biggest Loser?" They have some great tips on there.... But once again, at your age and size, I'm sure you're beautiful just the way you are.  But it's always a good idea to try to keep fit.

  5. 5'0 and 90 pounds would be a BMI of 17.5. Underweight is anything less than a BMI of 18.5. So, if you want to make yourself look like a toothpick, go ahead. It's not my call. I am just showing you some facts.
