the gun company Heckler and Koch made a civilian version of the G36. since the G36 was made in the 1990's, civilians in america cannot own the automatic version of this gun, only the civilian semi automatic variant. the problem with the civilian "SL-8" rifle is that it is UGLY, and it does not really look like a G36. is it possible to change the parts on a SL-8 so that it actually resembes the G36?

do not answer if you dont know anything about the SL-8 and G36....because HK may have manufactered the SL-8 in a way that it cannot be customized. also indicate if you are a owner of an SL-8.

  1. It requires modifications by a gunsmith. This kit replaces the stock, magwell, gas piston, and bolt head so that it will accept AR-15 mags. Unfortunately because it's an imported rifle you can't just replace the stock so all those parts have to be replaced to make it compliant with Title 18 U.S.C.  Ã‚§ 922(r).  Once you do the conversion, even though they'll still fit, you can't use the original SL-8 mag or G36mags because they count towards the imported parts limit, only US made ar-15/m16 mags.

Here's a link to the kit.

These people will install it for you if you don't want to try it yourself. They also offer a dye job that permanently changes the color of the plastic to make it look more like a G36.

All told it’ll cost about $600 to make an SL-8 into a G36 clone that uses AR hi-cap mags.
