Is it possible to make a bookshelf speaker into a subwoofer?

I have a pair of JBL Century L100, and one of them is broken. I would, however like to incorporate the working one into my sound system.

I have to other working bookshelf speakers that sound great, but no subwoofer. So I was wondering if I could turn my JBL into a subwoofer for bass. Or would I have to buy a different cone?

Thanks in advanced..

  1. No, you cannot This speaker does not have the frequency response to deliver the inaudible tones a subwoofer is supposed to create.  You need to splurge on a new sub.

  2. its a  very  workable  idea  in  theory  but  in  practice  you  have  to  know  what  you  are  doing  with  spker  wiring  and   amplifier  impedence  ratangs  or  you  will  do more  damage  to  your  system  than  you  will  save  over  buying  a  powered  subwoofer

i have  a  pair  of  psb  towers  that  use 3   6.5 inch cones   in  separate  enclosures and  give  all the  bass  anyone  could  want

Frequency is  all  about  wavelength  if  there  is  enough room  inside  the  enclosure  for  the  soundwave  to  reach  the  wavelength required  for  low  frequencies then  you  have  your  lows

but  again  without  the  knowledge  you  are  wasting  your  time  and  risking  your existing system.
