Question:

Is it possible to make a cake out of Soy Products?

I was wondering if it's possible to make a normal birthday cake (NOT chocolate) using Soy products? My daughter has a milk allergy and can only handle Soy products and on her first birthday I want her to have her own little special cake, but unless I make it with Soy products she can't stomach it! :( So anyone have any good recipes? Or any thoughts on how I can make a tasty cake minus the dairy?

  1. I dont see why not.

You could try Trader Joes or Whole Foods Market stores to see if they have the soy ingredients you would need.

Hope it works out for you

  2. Check this site out, it may be helpful!

    http://www.vrg.org/recipes/vegancakes.ht...

  3. Yes of course. Instead of using cow's milk you use soy milk. If there's a yoghurt in the recipe, just use a soy yoghurt. It works fine.

    Go vegan!

  4. Im not sure but they seem to make every thing else out of it so i would assume so

  5. Yes! there is such thing as soy milk. Its non dairy. So just make it like you would a normal cake, eggs, flour etc. Just change the milk to soy.

  6. google a website that has recipes

    type in the ingreidents

and it should come up w/ a list of recipes w/ those ingredients

  7. I found this really nice recipe for a dairy free birthday cake about  a year ago, when a friend of mine became a vegan. It actually went along with an article about a mother searching for a good cake for her son with a milk allergy and this question made me think of this particular recipe. It really is great and I think it would be perfect!

    Ingredients:

    1½ cups egg whites

    ½ teaspoon cream of tartar

    ¼ teaspoon baking powder

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

    ¼ cup rolled oats

    3 ripe bananas, mashed

    1 cup cake flour

    2 cups confectioners' sugar

    ¼ teaspoon salt

    Method:

    Preheat oven to 165C.

Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.

Combine cream of tartar, baking powder, vanilla, cinnamon, oats, and mashed bananas. In a separate bowl combine the flour, confectioner's sugar, and salt.

Fold the banana mixture into the egg whites. Then fold the flour mixture into the egg white/banana mixture.

Pour batter into one 9 or 10 inch round cake pan, coated with a non-stick cooking spray.

Bake for 1 hour, until cake is firm and lightly golden.

Cool for five minutes then slip out of pan on to a serving dish. Garnish with a light dusting of confectioner's sugar.

  8. Just use soymilk for the milk in any regular recipe or box mix (as long as no milk products in the box mix).

  9. Buy soy makes electronics.

You can't make a cake out of electronics! It will kill someone!

  10. Of course there is.

    Try google'ing it.

    Or goodhousekeeping.com

and see if they've had past recipes on soy cakes.

  12. Ya, it's called SoyCake

  13. I hope eggs are ok for her to have.

I don't know if this will work for you....you can maybe substitute the heavy cream (it's a small amount, but still...) with some soy milk maybe, and use sugar if you are more comfortable with it, rather than the substitute.

Have you checked out low-carb recipes online?  Many will use soy products because they are lower in carbohydrates than white or whole wheat flours...and many will skip on milk.

    Italian Sponge Cake

5 eggs, separated, at room temp

    8 teaspoon-equivalents sugar substitute

1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon vanilla

    1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind

    3 tablespoons soy flour

    4 tablespoons heavy cream

    1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Grease a layer cake pan with butter or oil.

Place egg yolks and sugar substitute in a bowl.  Beat with electric hand mixer until well blended.  Add vanilla and lemon rind.  Continue to beat and add soy flour 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until well blended.  Add heavy cream and blend in.

Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff.  Fold yolk mixture into whites by hand, with an under and over movement.  Be careful not to break down the egg whites.

Turn into layer cake pan and bake at 325 for 30 minutes.
