  1. The only way would be a warped DVD to crash into the lens

  2. I really don't think it works like that.  Otherwise everybody who ever tried to play a scratched DVD would have a broken player and people would be suing Blockbuster left and right.  I think it is more likely that your player wouldn't play the scratched DVD because it was already failing.  I have had two DVD players die on me and for a few weeks beforehand they were very "picky" about what dvds they would play. You could put a perfectly clean, unscratched DVD in and it would refuse it a few times, then play it.  If you ejected and restarted the scratched disc multiple times, it might have caused more stress on the parts that were already breaking, but the DVD player would have died anyway. The last two DVD players I bought lasted just over a year.  We are trying to buy better quality electronics to reduce our number of throwaways, but even expensive players aren't lasting the way I think they should.

  3. no because i put in a really scratch dvd and it just wouild't read it and it spits it back out my still works it could mess up if you try cleaning with a banana the sensor  could break if you get anything on the sensor so it depends really

  4. Depends, you say it's scratched up ,so it's probably dirty and warped too, so I would guess yes, it could.

  5. no dear i dont think so......even if u try to play badly scratched DVD it will not be destroyed in one day............it should be able to play those kinds of DVDs more then thousand time before it dies off any other or that reason.......and all electronic items have some specific life period ......or average life period predicted by manfacturer whether you use it or not.
