I am re-doing some of the items on my small 15' trihull and I would really like to add a trolling motor on the bow. What I am finding is that the bow mount is 3x the price of a rear or transom mount trolling motor. Has anyone created or found a mount that will work and save me some $. With the price of gas, I need to cut some corners somewhere so I can still afford to put the boat in the water, lol.

  1. Bigdog, the difference between the price of the two motors is the mount. If you can rig up a mount for your boat using a transom mount, have at it. Any way that you can rig it to withstand the forces on it will do. Try using some wood planks.

  2. Not seeing your motor and mount  I would guess that the difference is the height above the water. Look at the mount and see if you can replace the arms that lower it with longer ones. You can get flat aluminum at a hardware store and drill matching holes. You can also make a nonmovable mount and remove the motor before leaving the water.
