My dad has cancer so he has so many food restrictions. I still want him to enjoy eating but all purpose flour is on his "cant have" list. All the recipes I have seen for whole wheat pizza dough require all purpose flour which he cant have. Is it possible not to use the all purpose flour?

  1. I only make my pizza with whole wheat flour, but sometimes whole wheat pastry flour which is still the whole grain in tact, just a lighter milder version of the wheat grain. But you may find it doesn't rise in the oven as well, but that's no biggie because it has so much more flavor than all purpose flour does! And for all my baking I only use whole grain, primarily whole wheat, just a tad less (eye measuring) do to its thickness and dryness so it would be more equal to using all purpose. Here's the recipe I use:

  2. Can he have whole wheat flour? I imagine that would work fine, but you can't make pizza without flour.

  3. I can't imagine a whole wheat pizza dough, without whole wheat flour. It'll probably make it even better than with using all purpose flower. Hope this helps, and hope things go well with your father.

  4. 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

        1/2 cup lukewarm water

        1 tablespoon yeast

        1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted margarine (both work fine)

    Directions:

Preheat oven 425 degrees.  Mix the yeast with the lukewarm water untill the yeast is disolved. Let it stand for a couple minutes. Add the salt and vegetable oil/melted margarine. Mix. Add the flour, and mix. Roll out the dough. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes. Take it out and rub margerine over it.  Add toppings, and cook for 10-15 more minutes.

    Serves: 1

    Preparation time: 20 min

  5. All purpose flour is not made with whole wheat so the recipes you found can't be for whole wheat pizza dough.

    Here's an easy recipe:

    WHOLE WHEAT PIZZA DOUGH

    1 pkg. dry yeast

    1 c. water (very warm)

    1 tbsp. honey

    2 1/2 - 3 c. whole wheat flour

Sprinkle yeast into water; add honey, stir and allow to stand 10 minutes. Add flour and work to form dough. Knead and place in lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise about 45 minutes. Punch down and spread on pizza pan.
