Is it possible to only buy the frame of a bicycle a company sells as a complete bike?

I'm looking for a bicycle frame so that I can build a bike up from the ground. It's basically just for the fun of it, but I do want to build a nice bike that I will use -- mainly for commuting and riding around town with the kids, sometimes pulling a trailer. I already have a Del Sol comfort hybrid and I really enjoy that geometry.

So I am looking for similar types of frames but all the major companies' websites only show full bikes, not just the frames.

Is it always possible to buy the frame of a bike that a company sells as a complete bike? Do you have a website that you can recommend for good prices on bike frames or equipment?

Yep.....almost all manufacturers offer a frame-only option......you may not get the same production colors on it, but they're usually available.    If you don't see it listed on their website, then ask a local dealer and they can get you pricing for the model you're interested in.   There are a few that don't offer frames, but most do.  

I don't know if you're looking for a road or mountain frame, but here are a couple good sites that have some stellar deals on frames from time to time:

http://www.jensonusa.com , http://www.wheelworld.com , http://www.pricepoint.com .   You could also try Nashbar and Performance for some lower-end frames.   Also, don't forget to ask local shops what they have available....sometimes they have frames in back that you won't know about unless you ask.

most manufacturers sell frame only options. although, unless you're using components that aren't usually on a particular bike, youll end up paying more for the bike. talk to the folks at your local shop..
