I am installing a built-in dishwasher and there is nowhere for me to get power from the wall other than an outlet. Is it possible to install a plug onto the dishwasher and put into a wall outlet? Let me know, Thanks

  1. Yes you can, though if that outlet was on a branch circuit supplying power to lets say, your computer, if someone turns the

dishwasher on, your breaker may trip.

  2. this is usually the most common way of connecting an appliance to the mains and it makes it easier and safer as you dont have to terminate in a small space.

  3. Yes. Many dishwashers have plugs while some are hardwired. You can add a plug on the end of the wire you use to hook it up.

  4. No problem

  5. yes it is possible and many installers do this.

  6. Physically it is easy. You can get everything you need at a large hardware store.

As far as the electrical code I am not sure that plugging a large appliance like that into an existing circuit that the outlet is connected to will meet the electrical code as it stands now. If it draws less than 12 amps it can usually go on a circuit with other appliances (although a separate circuit is usually recommended). If it draws more than that it must have a separate circuit.
