  1. Of course, there have been many satellites in orbit around the moon and Mars.

    Moon:

Clementine was the latest US satellite to orbit the moon, in 1994 (for about 115 days).

In 1997, Japan launched Selene, and in 2007, China launched Chang'e 1.

    Mars:

US Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter - currently in orbit.

ESA Mars Express Orbiter - currently in orbit.

US Mars Odyssey - currently in orbit.

There have been a number of orbiters that are no longer active (search "mars exploration" on wikipedia for details).

  2. Yes, both have been done.

  3. sure. why not? there are satellites in orbit around mars right now, taking pictures and sending back data.

  4. Not only is it possible...but..it's already happened.

We have satellites that have left the solar system...we have satellites that are orbiting several planetary bodies.

We have hundreds of satellites orbiting the Earth alone.

We have so many satellites out there...that...it's still amazes me that we can keep such an accurate account for them.

  5. Yes and yes as it has been done already.
