ok heres what im looking to do, im looking to up the voltage to my fuel pump, for example its only reading over 10volt ,, surley it should be reading 12v when your using a 12v battery, is there away to get the votage to the fuel pump up to 12 or higher?

  1. You car's electric system will increase to 13.8 volts with the engine running.  If you're only getting 10V, the fuel pump might be run off a voltage regulated circuit.  You can defeat this by using the 10V signal to the fuel pump to operate a relay to supply 13.8V to your pump.

This could cause your fuel pressure to get too high and your engine could run too rich - maybe that's what you want to happen.

  2. "over 10volt" how much over?

Check with your dealer, it's possible that that is the correct voltage. But if not, then you have one of three problems: a bad ground connection for the pump, or a corroded connection between the pump and the relay that drives it, or a bad relay.

Put the voltmeter on it and wiggle wires and tighten screws and see if it changes.

  3. Capacitors

  4. A capacitor won't work, they would help if there's a power spike in the power supply, it'll regulate the power to be constant till it's drained.

I'm not sure how you would do it.

There are step-up transformers, but the amps will go down and may not be worth doing it that way.

You could put a relay and get the power for the pump right off the main line, but depending on how you control the pump now, it may affect the operation of your gadget (you never said what it was).

If this is some kind of gadget, you could look for a resistor on the circuit board, find out how much it resist, and then replace it with a lower one.
