Question:

Is it possible to raise IQ at teenage stage?

I'm looking for professional answers, not those based on opinions.

So let's say I'm trying to raise my IQ, say from 140 to around 160. I'm at my adolescent stage, and I'm very much attracted to puzzles and mathematical problems. If I continue cultivating this habit of doing brain exercises regularly, is it possible that my IQ will grow in time? Or are there perhaps other ways in which I can achieve that raise in my IQ?

I've heard of people born with average IQ, but grew up to be really smart. So I'm just wondering, could it be that improving mathematical proficiency is the key to raising one's IQ?

  1. IQ is something that does not change.  Your IQ score does not vary with age, if you were tested by a licensed psychologist one on one.  The IQ tests on-line are not real IQ tests.  You can improve your memory and increase your knowledge base by reading, and challenging your mind.  But IQ will remain constant.  (psychology professor)

  2. No matter what the psychologists might say, IQ is NEVER a measure of intelligence. As you probably know by now, IQ measures proficiency in certain areas like spatial reasoning, vocabulary, and word or number dexterity.

Now, because IQ is not a true measure of intelligence, it is possible to study these certain fields and thus raise your IQ.

On the other hand, it is true that these skills can come more naturally to some than to others, but the bottom line is, you can study for an IQ test just like you can study for a test in any other subject. Just make sure you know what you are doing.
