Question:

Is it possible to recover from PTSD? Will I ever feel safe again?

I had a kind of traumatic experience a few months back and while I feel a bit better now, I wonder how long I will go on constantly feeling that people are out to victimize me. I think its called hypervigilance. I get depressed very easily now, and I think it is tied to this experience also. I just don't know what to do anymore. Is there any way I can help myself? Any coping strategies that someone knows? Any ways I can help myself stay positive?

Any words of advice would help me a lot.

  1. Check out www.emdr.com REad about how this therapy helps PTSD, then find you a therapist using the links there.

  2. Google a short piece called Desiderata. When you have read it and you feel that you have understood everything it is trying to say then focus. Focus on strengths not weaknesses. Focus on positives not negatives.  Focus - it is all to do with focus. With very best wishes for now and your future. UK

  3. Please see a counselor. If you cannot afford to see a psychologist or other counselor, most areas have a community mental health center with professional help.

Sometimes it takes talking to someone else with experience in dealing with PTSD to make behavioral changes. In the meantime, try to take care of yourself physically--enough sleep, healthful food, and lots of exercise--to keep yourself as strong as possible both physically and mentally.

    Good luck!
