Question:

Is it possible to recycle clothes?

My mom and I have clothes not good enough to donate to second hand stores or to charities. In fact these clothes are either so used they're see through or they have holes in them. In the spirit of saving our planet, what can I do with them?

  1. You can use the parts that are not too thin or thread bare to make a string quilt.  It doens't take hardly any knowledge of sewing to do this.  if you need directions let me know.

  2. Well, this club i was in held a big party type of thing called a swaparama. Its when everybody brings in old cloths that are too small, to worn out anything and you can cut them up and sew them together with some other old clothes and make new clothes. or find clothes just the way they are that you like. So you can either hold one yourself or if you look online i am sure you can find one in your area.

  3. i cut out squares from my old jeans and sew them together and i stuff them with my old clothes and i decorate them with glitter glue afer i'm all done with them and i display them on my bed...all my friends love to play with them when they come over and they say that they are very comfortable...they are lots of fun to make and very cute and cuddley...

Have fun making them if you ever decide to do so!!

  4. Firstly, THANK YOU for asking. Years ago, I used to make what we called "rag rugs" from just the type of clothes about which you're asking. I was delighted to find this site about it.

    http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/...

This is a wonderful idea for helping children learn to crochet and sew and also to occupy the elderly in nursing homes. They love to share stories about, "remember when".

  5. Turn them into rags for cleaning,or maybe, someone needs them as you know,to wear for dirty jobs...

  6. freecycle.com

or you could save them and sell them at a garage sale for 5 cents a piece.. and you could make rags out of them.. like to clean your kitchen with your t-shirts instead of using paper towels

  7. Some clothes (cotton) can be made into paper.

  8. There are a few things you can do.  The fabric can be cut up for rags or cut and re-sewn into quilts and such. If you're not a sewer there are sewing circles or "quilting for a cause" type charity groups that might be interested.  Some fibers can be used for homemade paper. If you don't want to make the paper yourself there are some companies and artists that would be glad to take it.  Denim can be made into insulation.  There are some companies out there that do other types of fiber re-purposing.

  9. Try using some of your clothes as a rug. I always do that whenever i have a clothe that i don't want anymore. Or if you really don't want to use it as a rug, then don't throw it.(to reduce waste) Just donate it.
