there are companies that will straighten out and refinish rims.  do a little research for some one local.

I have repaired a bent steel rim using a 5 lb. sledgehammer. It's crude, and the rim was a little scarred, but it held air, and the wheel remained true.

I would not try this with an alloy rim. Alloys are lighter but less flexible. There are shops that have the technology and tools to do the repair, but you can't do it at home.

Steel wheels are inexpensive, so replacing a damaged steel wheel is not real costly. Tire Rack sells them for less than $50.

Get a pro to do it, you don't have the right tools in the first place & you need to balance your wheel when it's done.

There's places that can fix bent forged rims, and steel wheels are a snap.  Let your fingers do the walking.
