Iv'e been putting together this 17" LCD TV I bought off craigslist. Lots of time and work put into this thing, but I finally got it. As I half hook it up and turn it on to test, I notice I have 2 strips all the way to the right. 1 black, 1 gray. I look above, I see the above the black line of blank image is a ribbon that is not connected all the way through. The green part is all the way off, but is held on by the edges. The part with the gray is totally ripped through until about halfway. I don't know how they are no longer intact to the panel all the way, I was very carefull. They are straight, so I don't know if it was ripped at all, I just don't know what to do now that I have 2 lines of picture gone after all this time and money. Is there a way to repair these ribbons without spending more then the TV's worth and sending it back to Dell?

  1. I have no idea what these ribbons are that you are talking about.

But LCD screens usually can't be repaired.

  2. You EXPECT to send it back to DELL with bad ribbon cables?

I sure hope you don't want a refund....

You cannot repair ribbon cables, and I hope those ribbon cables are not "built-in" to the LCD panel, because if they are built in, then you need a new panel ...and that's more expensive than a whole new TV set....

I sure wish the manufacturers would provide those cables as a separate piece....but they don't.
