Question:

Is it possible to replace a mouse port?

I've been having issues with the mouse and I have a "Hunch" that the port for the mouse is broken. Its connected to the motherboard, so is it possible to remove and replace it? The keyboard works fine, but I keep getting this error message when I look at the mouse:

"This device is not present is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)"

Any and all help would be so helpful. I have a number of other questions so look around and you may find something that's wrong.

Thanks.

  1. It would be easier to get a USB mouse...

  2. Try new drivers.

    Or a USB mouse.

  3. the old driver is probably corrupted...try re-installing it. The mouse port is connected to the motherboard so if you want to replace the port you have to replace the whole motherboard...buy a USB mouse instead

  4. I don't know about the port but if no one else can help you you can try the alternative, get a mouse that has a USB plug.  Or get an adapter that will turn your mouse plug into a USB plug.  Mine broke too so this is what I did.

  5. wow... so do you start a fire in the fireplace by using thermite?

    1. Have you tried using a different mouse?

    2. If it's a USB mouse, have you tried plugging into a different USB port?

    3. Have you tried installing the drivers that came with your mouse?

    4. Have you verified that these/this port is using updated drivers?

Your "hunch" is, of course, most likely wrong. In 23 years of systems management experience, I have only seen a "mouse port" break two or three times. To further compound this hunch, the computer recognized that the mouse is being plugged in and can even gleem at least some information about the mouse, resulting in the system generating that response.

You need to bring your computer to someone who knows what they're doing before you go and break it. And for the record, it would be cheaper and easier to replace the motherboard than to break the solder, unseat the port, find a compatable one, seat it, solder it, test and install drivers without destroying the motherboard and find the same problem persists.

  6. There is no reason why the port would just break (Unless you dropped the machine and it's been physically damaged).  It is most likely a software fault and you need re-install the drivers for the mouse.  Presumably you have windows?  Go to the Mouse properties in the control panel and in the hardware choose to reinstall the driver.

  7. try ur mouse on anthor computer if its the same buy new usb mouse

  8. First, get the make and model of your mouse, and try to reinstall drivers.

If that doesn't work, you can get a usb adapter for your mouse.  It plugs directly into your usb port, then you can plug the end of the mouse into that.  I had the same problem.  I bought a keyboard/mouse combo for around 20 bucks.  It was usb.

    That's probably your quickest fix.

  9. DONT TRY TO REPLACE ANYTHING ON A MOUSE b******e!! PLEASE, DON'T DO IT!
