Is it possible to reposition a satellite dish without special equipment?

Recently moved house and have eventually got round to sorting out sky TV. There is an existing dish but it's hanging off, I've got all the other equipment I need from our old house plugged in and ready to go including the cable from the dish on the roof. Is it possible to get a ladder and refix the dish and have my wife on her mobile inside give me instruction until we get it right?

  1. Not sure really, but i can advise not hanging out of the bedroom window, hitting it with a broom ....that really doesn't work!

  2. Just use a compass and point it east or look at which way other dishes near you are pointing

  3. Another solution is to use satellite tv software. You can watch streaming tv using your internet, and you don't have to buy any extra equipment.

Try it at www.StreamingTvPro.com and you will see many benefits from using it. You don't need to pay for subscriptions anymore. If you want to see the comparisons, read it at www.StreamingTvPro.com/blog

It's the best investment I've ever choose. No need to pay $90/month only for satellite tv

  4. All you need are the tools to fix the bracket. You may find that a thing called a satellite finder useful. This plugs into the dish and an earpiece will beep when you have the signal. You will get an approximate direction and angle from your neighbours dishes.

  5. it is possable to position it yourself - thpough the amount of tolerance between a full / perfect signal and nothing at all, is so close that you really need to watch the tv through a bedroom window yourself as the lag is too great using 2 people.

one pointer here - if you see a full signal but cannot see any channls, its because you are lined up on the wrong satellite - been there done that - got the tee shirt!

its not as easy as positioning an aerial but with patience you will get there.

as a bit of a pointer, to get the general area, wait till midday and point the dish directly at the sun. Next move it to the left and slightly down

    Good luck

  6. Possible, yes! This website is very helpful.
