Many people believe wasting foods is unethical, still we find so much is being wasted in parties, occasions, hotels and even in houses. Education should be the right way to highlight this issue

  1. There is enough food for everyone in the world, the issue that needs to be solved is distribution/transportation and storage, as well as reduction in the waste of food of course.

the long term governments need to create "incentives for producers to increase output". Do you really think we can go on increasing output indefinately?

the Punjab the so called "Green revolution" was short term - farmers are now needing more pesticides and fertiliser, and still their land is yielding less. In addition the increased use of pesticides seems to be causing cancer.

It seems that in the long term we need to be concerntrating on making the best use of limited resources. This includes reducing our consumption of meat and our dependancy on comercial oil-based fertilisers.

It is naive to say that increasing output can solve this crisis. With global warming, the growing realisation that oil is running out, increased affluence in developing nations and an ever-increasing global population, encouraging this sort of thinking will not improve matters.

We need to change the way we view the earth and its resources, because we are uterly dependent on them, and we cannot continue to expect more and more.

  2. Yes, education, but not on diet and wastage. Educate them to be industrious about living so that they can contributors to their own well-being and be less spoiled about how they live and spend their time & money.

  3. There are 2 aspects.

    1. Food is not eaten mechanically but only when the tongue and the faculty of taste allow it to go inside and down the gullet. And preference to taste is an acquired trait. Otherwise you wouldn't see such a mind boggling variety of cuisine. It is better to train a child from infancy to like healthy food of varied nature. Cultivate in the child preference for mild tastes and in moderation. Many modern meticulous mothers do this. If the faculty of taste goes berserk, one loses any concern for the gastronomic load the body gets burdened with. Obesity is totally wasteful and should be avoided. One principle is to eat only when one is hungry and also to take plenty of plain, clean water. But then, the snack food companies that make billions worth of dollars may go out of business.

    'Control your tongue'!

    2. Wasting food has become fashionable. Gluttony is also wastage and is a sin. Then, wasting food without eating is a deadlier sin. While not sounding to be a moral police, and a spoil sport, I feel food can be enjoyed and savoured and be taken for better health. Everyone must cultivate certain values in so far as consuming food. This can be inculcated by training.

man inherently is looking for variety in food just as in other things. But the present day's routine eating habits has reduced that variety to a few staple foods and stocks, at home. And the people clamour for any exotic or delicious food outside the home. There are many traditional vegetarian families in India whose menfolk go or even prefer to eat outside fro non-vegetarian food. Such taboos only increase hypocracy to institutionalisation level. This trait might spread to other activities of a person. To partake food of a great variety is essential and must be inculcated from early childhood. This will go a long way in mitigating problems associated with world's food availability, as newer varieties of food emerge. As a rule, non-vegetarian food needs to be taken in moderation.

Finally, educating and training part. These are the things that a school is meant to teach. These take precedence over the subjects and books. I would say the latter can wait a few more years to college level. The mid-day meals program introduced by states in India is a challenge and is also an opportunity.

  4. Nice question !

Proper education to every child n adults is the only way to grow faster. From my point of view to prevent the wastage of food, water etc. i.e., to become an complete civilised person education is the only proper channel. So i agree to ur opinion .
