My friend bought me a computer which was very nice and all, but i'm a little freaked out and paranoid because he knows a lot about computers and I'm worried that he may be watching my every move on my new computer. Is this possible? I'm not going to say what, but I do have good reasons to suspect this. If it is possible, how can I find out and how can I prevent it from happening?

Thanks

  1. Very much. There can be monitoring software which can be installed in your computer and will keep track of the activities on it. Also, these data are viewable remotely - using any other computers. One good example is Webwatcher. Though, installation of it is legal if you own or have permission from the owner of the computer you are installing it on.

Here is the best way to ensure that no one installs anything on your computer: Do not give anyone that you don't totally trust access to your computer unless you give them a limited account (no admin permissions) to use. That is the only way you can be assured that nothing is installed without your permission.

  2. If that guy installed a program such as vnc viewer on your computer, he may well has the ability to log into your computer from his... and watch what you are doing.

The only way i would know if research a bit about some programs such as vnc viewer and then search the file name on your computer.
