Is it possible to see what someone's doing on one computer from another computer?

My friend claims he can see what his brother and sister are doing on their computer from his. Like, check what sites they go on/if they're instant messaging or whatnot. He won't show me if he's really doing it or not, but I was wondering, is that even possible?

This is absolutely true.  There are programs that have this ability.  Computer troubleshooting companies have this program to help people from home if they are having problem with their computer.  The computers at my school also had this ability.  They were connected through one network so the administrator had access to all the computers as well as the ability to see what the opposite person is doing.  It is possible and is considered spying :P

Yes it is possible to do this there are many applications that allow you to see someones screen. To list a few VNC and RDP (rdp is built into windows) these programs are not that hard to use. There are lots of pages on the Internet that give step by step instruction on how to set them up. They only get really complicated to set up over the internet but in a home network they are very easy.

Yes it's possible.

Some tools actually show you the screen with mouse movement and everything. Others show you the process listing of the remote computer and you can make guesses as to what each person is doing based on which programs are running and being used (messenger.exe for instance would be using IM, iexplorer.exe would be surfing the web).

These tools are not easy to setup and understand, fact is they take lots of money (for the screen echo) or a high level of technical expertise to configure, run and evaluate the results.

I would look for more of a reflective item or camera behind the systems he claims to see.
