the fence will already be electrified. the receiver picks up a modified signal. u'll have to trace the signal back..

But I'd check first to see how good the connection is between the vertical wires. You may have a very shaky erratic connection end to end, specially when the wind shakes the fence. Put an ohmmeter from end to end and shake the fence and see if it changes.

If it's stable, you can use it for just about any signal.
