Is it possible to set up a generic ID that anyone can use to access the group?

For example, could I set up a generic ID, named "groupmember" and give it a password like "weallrock", then anyone who knows the generic ID and password can access the site? That would allow people in my boy scout troop to access the group without becoming an individual member.

  1. We have that for our Boy Scout troop.  You can change the password from time to time so former members no longer have access.  Bravenet has a good secure password protection program.  If you're talking about a yahoo group, then everyone can have their own id so you know who posted what.

  2. you could do this, however only one at a time would be able to use the ID, and if another tried would bump a user off and with so many users to one ID from different area's may vatch a filter and tag that ID as a hacker.

I would suggest not using that idea, and having the troop join per their own ID
