If I put the mass that has a strong odor in a "air tight" baggy in an "air tight" baggy in an "air tight" baggy, will it take longer for the smell to permeate to the outside of the very last bag?

  1. Yes. You aren't slowing the process down but adding layers to the process.

    Prolonging the inevitable. :)

  2. Yes, but it will take much longer for the smell to permeate. Note also that if it is a bag within a bag within a bag then some of the molecules will circulate in each bag. Remember, permeating occurs from greater concentration to lesser concentration, always approaching equilibrium. The inner bag releases smell until it is the same as the next bag, and so on.

Hope this helped! I am sure curious as to why something smelly needs to go in three bags. =)
