We have a VERY small budget and want to do something very temporary. we need a flat wall that we can project and image on too. Can we put a very thin layer of plaster on the wallpaper and paint over it. (There was a hole in the wall, which we filled and the plaster behind the wallpaper is crumbling like sand).

We only need it to last for 1-3 months.

  1. If you don't need to actually fix the wall, why don't you hang a king-sized white sheet on it and project your image on that?

  2. YES -for the hole, if possible get something behind the hole for a backer.

Best product to use is easy sand, Home depot , you can get it in small amounts. it is a powder and you have to mix it.

Easy Sand 20- dries in 20 min....fast setting. Easy Sand 60 will give you more time. Easy sand is a little stronger and shrinks less then reg Spackle. Therefore less chance for cracks. That will take care of the hole

For the whole surface. the best thing to do is just paint it. If you have to fix or smooth out some bad spots then spackle first. If it is the whole wall I would first paint with a good primer like KILZ . That will keep the moisture from the paint from causing separation from the paper and compound. For this coat over the surface I would use an all purpose light weight compound. also Home Depot

  3. Since you specify that you only need it for a short time then yes you can.  Although it may crack in a very short time, but should be limited to "hairline" cracks for at least a few months.   It will not last longer than that.  A plaster surface is only as good as the surface it is applied to.

  4. patch the hole with spackle, then just paint over the wall paper, plastering over all the wall paper will get into to a mess your not prepared for
