Is it possible to spend $100 to $200 for a mountain bike?

So far I have seen Mongoose, Pacific something and Next bikes at Walmart. I have gone to a local bike store and the cheapest I saw was $399 for a Schwinn. Is Mongoose mountain bike any good?

You might buy one used.  You'll get a better bike that way.  Mongoose is good.  I got a very good used one for $190 on Craigslist.org.

get a good brand like giant or fuji used on ebay for $200

Depends on what you plan on doing with this bike. For riding around the neighborhood a Walmart or like bike should work fine. Now if you are planning on doing off-road mountain biking your best bet would be to find a used bike on craigslist from one of the major bike manufactures such as Giant, Trek, Gary-Fisher, Kona, Etc. If you want a brand new mountain bike for off-road adventures plan on spending $400+ for a quality ride.

personally, I'd be checking the newspapers and other places to buy a used one thats in good shape. I just purchased a used Roadster at a yard sale for $7.50.

If you are looking for a bike to ride off road. I think you'll do better to go to a bike shop and buy a used one. The mongoose, pacific, etc are ok for casual road and trail riding, but they are typically pretty heavy and have cheep components on them.

Yes, it is ..I have a Mongoose bike S300 I spend almost 500.00 dollars for it...but I have seen them on walmart at 199.00 dollars...Make sure they have the brake disc on the front wheel...Those are the best ones..

I love my bike, it is easy to use and has 24 speeds

mongoose is ok... but mongoose pro is better. i would suggest your local bike store, they wont lie to you (like walmart and similar stores) about where and how to get a cheap bike.
