Is it possible to splice a mini audio cable to red/white rca cable?

I have all of the materials I need, I'm just not sure if the wires inside the cables line up the same. And if they don't, what can I do to make them? I really wasn't wanting to go to the store and spend $5.00 on a cable when I could just as easily make it myself!

You can buy a mini-audio to RCA cable adaptor for a $1 or so, Go to Radio Shack!

Sure, if you already have the connectors you can make your own.

I don't think the "$1 or so" guy has been to RadioShack lately.  The cheapest one I see is $20...
