  1. Probably, although potassium chlorate is more often used with sugar.  Consider the "Flaming Gummy Bear" demo.

Take a look at these links:

  2. yes, been there, done that, got the T shirt.  potassium chlorate and sugar will not start a fire without heat or ignition,  although it does make a fine instant charcoal starter, the products being carbonated salt water it's non-toxic.

  3. Water, I think...not sure about sugar.

  4. Without any source of ignition, potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and glycerol (aka glycerin, or 1,2,3-propanetriol) will react within 20 seconds to produce a brilliant pink/purple flame. Glycerol can be purchased at a local pharmacy (OTC).  KMnO4 I'd imagine would be a little harder to get a hold of, perhaps you could purchase it online from a pool supply store... that is if you don't already own some.  A really neat reaction nevertheless.  I'm not sure if replacing glycerol with sugar would produce similar results, I have never tried it.  But I can tell you from first hand experience, that glycerol + KMnO4 (1:1) works great.  If you try it with sugar let me know how it works out!  Oh and, of course, be safe.
