Is it possible to still get bad side effects from birth control? (please read on)?

here's the deal: I started a low-dose bc pill over a week ago (Kariva--also known as "mircette"). I have had little side effects has of yet -- just some mild headaches..Probably from my body adjusting to the new hormones. This is my first time on BC. Can I still get nasty effects (nasea, vomiting, irritability, etc) or is it more likely it would have already happened? I'm hopeful because it's low-dose & I feel okay so far. Any personal experience/advice greatly appreciated. :)

  1. You can still get the side effects of a new birth control (new to your body) for up to the first 3 months you are on it. As each week of your cycle passes, your body experiences many different changes. Just because your body is fine in the first week does not mean you are totally in the clear. If the side effects are something you can live with, then you are fine. If they are something that effects your everyday living, go to a doctor as soon as possible. Make sure you look out for numbness of arms and legs as well as shortness of breath. These are something that you should bring to the doctor right away!!

  2. It is always possible to get side affects @ any time as the hormones built up in your blood stream. I would have a chat with your females relatives (mom, sister or aunt), they have your genes & would have similar reactions/side effects...if, they've used BC pills.

  3. With all meds you can have side effects at any time.  No matter the dose amount.  You could wait a while and get side effects.  It all depends on your body and how it reacts to the meds.  I am on a med it isn't birth control but it is a medication and after being on it for 8 months I started having bad side effects.  Best of luck!

  4. I think it takes up to a month for your body to adjust to a new BC, and it is in that time period that you would experience the side effects it MAY cause you the whole time. I was told when I started the Depo Provera shot that the side effects I experience in the beginning probably would taper off within a month or so. BUT I have been on it nine months at this point, I STILL get headaches everday which adds to the mood swings I am STILL experiencing which doesn't help my low s*x drive that I STILL have as  a result of this stupid shot. But for ALOT of women, the side effects decrease or disappear completely. But to answer your question, it is probably possible that you could begin to experience negative side effects, but if you do, it probably* won't be for long, I am just unfortunate.

  5. the bigger side effects can happen at anytime which is why it's important to keep track of how you feel at all times while on them. For example i have had two family members who have developed blood clots from them, now i myself, have been on BC for almost a year now and jus have small symptoms like nausea for about an hour after i take the pill, keep track of how your feeling at all times and if you notice drastic changes in health see a doctor immediately.

  6. Any new medication can cause side effects, it is possible, being that your pill is low dose that they should be minimal while your body adjusts.  Other side effects may include an increase in bust size - sometimes with tenderness, leg cramping and in some cases hair loss or thinning.  If these symptoms do not settle I would consult the Dr and change to another pill as various hormone levels in each pill will affect people differently

  7. anything is possible with bc..i am on alesse also a low dose...and for a while i felt nasea, and am still pretty pms when it comes close to the big period..but the nasea and headaches went away after like 3 months..the pms, well my husbands says no...so lol i guess not
