I woke up this morning to find one of my nipples extremely sore! I wasn't sure what it was from but before I was just squeezing it and I noticed a bit of milk? I haven't breastfed for a month or more so I was wonering if this was normal? I thought that maybe there was some milk trapped in there and that's why my nipple is so painful? Has anyone else had anything like this before?

  1. yeah i've asked a doctor about it with my first child and it can happen. apparently you can have it for the rest of your life !!! weird huh

  2. Its been over a month since I breastfed and I will still leak a little if I squeeze, especially after a shower. My lactation consultant friend said that once you make milk your body can remember how its done for years after. If its sore though, you may need to pump just to relieve yourself. You can still get mastitis until all the ducts are empty.

  3. Yea it took my milk like 6 months to be completly gone

  4. Yes most definately it can take months even up to years  for breastmilk to dry up.

if you nipples are a bit sore try expressing a bit to make it comfortable and see if it makes a difference. if not i would go see your doctor.

it may be a blocked duct which could eventuate to a bad bout of mastitis so i would take care

  5. yeaaaa ! ! !

  6. Oh yes!  A year after my first one weaned, I could still squeeze out a drop or two!   Watch for hot/red spots on your breast.  Make sure you dont have a clogged duct or anything.  If all is well, then dont worry.  Its normal for some women to still have a little milk for quite some time after weaning.

  7. Yes definately.  I have not been breastfeeding now for 6 months and still have milk!  Its a little strange!

  8. Of course! My friend still had milk 6 yrs after her child had been born!
