Is it possible to stop a car with telekinesis?

I had my daugher in a stroller in Central Park NYC, and was crossing the park drive, a yellow taxi came around a corner at approximately 35-45 mph and was at least 75 ft away from me when the driver applied his brakes - he would have hit us head on. The car lurched to a stop 25 ft away from us - I think his brakes locked but I'm not sure (nyc cabs have the worst brakes on them from wear and tear), at the moment I saw the car rounding the corner I was prepared to die because I was frozen but something in my mind said stop.

The cab seemed to hit a brick wall and actually shut off and stalled, the driver had trouble re-starting the car and I walked off with my daughter without a care in the world - still alive and not even shaken. This happened at least 12 yrs ago.

Scientist and mathematicians work out the distances and speed for me and see if it's possible that maybe the guy was a good driver with excellent reflexes.

  1. this kind of events work as a trigger in some peoples' minds and they become very religious - ever considered 'a guardian angel' stopping it, instead of an invisible brick wall?

it could mean anything and nobody can interpret it for you - only you.

based on your system of beliefs or non-beliefs.

strictly answering your question... jean grey from the x-men team can.

in the real world, although i fancy the idea of telekinesis, it would be quite fantastic. even for me, as a believer.

  2. You should be glad the guy had the sense to hit the brakes like that instead of trying to use telekinesis himself!

  3. No.  There is no such thing as telekinesis. Many scientists in the US and USSR, mostly working for the military, investigated the concept for thirty years and found nothing.

  4. Assuming a coefficient of friction of about 0.8, typical for rubber on dry road, and assuming 35 mph speed, a car can stop in as little as 51 feet. Your estimate was 75 - 25 = 50 feet, which is pretty darn close. Nothing paranormal here.

The cab probably lurched at the end because at some point the tires will "catch", meaning that if they were locked up and sliding, they will stop sliding on the pavement and the rest of the car will lurch forward from its remaining momentum. Also, it's notable that this happened 12 years ago, so there is certainly a degree of uncertainty in the measurements as you remember them.

  6. I don't know for sure.I recommend any tele/psycho kinetics attempting an experiment.Play it safe,do not stand in the cars path.

  7. Maybe you should just think of it as "will" rather than telekinesis. Human will can do many "impossible" things.

I'd say the combined will of you and the driver helped to stop the cab. But that's not such an impossible breaking task at that speed for a reasonable driver.

The real important thing was that you felt something happen that you can't explain.

  8. We have examples of "superpowers in humans", for example when that mother pulled the wrecked car off her son with no injury to her.  Telekinesis is probably one of these unused part of our brains.

  9. A car can stop from 40 mph to 0 mph in 50 feet, especially if the engine is turned off.

I suppose it's possible that you had a spontaneous surge of PK that forced the cab to a standstill (that also caused the engine to die), but there are a lot of other possibilities I would want eliminated before I would settle on that explanation.

  10. Nope, sorry.  There's absolutely no evidence for telekinesis.  If there were, it would be studied and would be a field of science.  It is instead considered paranormal (as in, not real) and this guy would give anyone a million bucks for a 5 minute demo.  30 years, no takers.  http://www.randi.org  You just got lucky.  I wouldn't count on it to happen again.

  11. sure, and telekinesis can make you fly also.

For that matter it can do anything you can imagine it can do.

However, it has never ever been demonstated to exist. Therefore so far it is only in the imagination.

apparently the guy had good enough brakes to stop his car, otherwise you would not be here.

You dont have super powers. Trust me.
