Is it possible to store oil (crude or refined) in a container. My uncle built a shelter and he wants to store oil in it that needs to last 50 years and still stay fresh. I don't think it is possible, does anyone know?

  1. you can store it but dont use it on your car it can ruin it but use it on ur lawn mower its ok

  2. Well I keep vegetable oil in my deep fat fryer for periods of 2-3 weeks and chips still taste good. Don't know if this helps.

  3. Tell him to pour it all back into the ground. After 10 years he can drill for it, show the oil companies that there is oil on his land, and they will buy the land from him for a good buck.

  4. Certainly he can store oil for 50 years. I assume he'll store the machinery for it, too, as in 50 years you won't find a gas driven vehicle outside of a museum.

  5. It's been in the ground for millions of years.  It can handle 50 years in a garage.

Your uncle wants to store oil for future use as an investment?  Or to supply his energy needs in the future?

My husband and I burn 30 gallons a week, or 1,500 gallons a year.  Your uncle wants to store 75,000 gallons (50 years worth) of oil?  That's 1363 drums (55 gallons each).  He must have a big garage.

    This sounds kooky.

  6. There are currnelty 700 million barrels of crude oil, stored in underground salt caverns in Texas and Louisiana. Been ther for years. Better get some salt
