My neighbor was always mowing part of my lawn with an old junk mower that left a crappy cut behind it. So I pigheadidly pounded a 2" steel rod to mark my property....I had mowed by this thing 50 times. This time I hit it.

  1. The cost of straightening a bent crankshaft will out cost the cost of a new engine

  2. Not likely it would ever be straight enough to prevent vibration and the wearing out of bearings.

  3. Yes you can straighten the shaft.  However its never going to be the same.  If you didn't like your neighbors quality of cut your not going to like yours even after you get your shaft straight.  I would take that rod out of the lawn if you haven't already.  Myself though I would go looking for another mower.  You can pick up another toro of that same quality for about 500 dollars.  I believe the new model would be a 20092 if you want a bag.  20091 if you want it without.  I wish you luck.

  4. Probably not.  You could possibly get it straightened out a bit but it is still not safe to use.  If there is a crack in the shaft it could cause a real bad situation.  Think about the blade spinning at 3500 rpm when the shaft breaks.  There is no telling where the parts may end up.  I know that you will get answers telling you to bang er straight with a hammer, but I would be carefull.  Like I said, a couple of pounds of steel turning at 3500 rpm will make an ugly projectile.
